I’ve been improvising with some of the same singers for over 20 years. We share a common musical language and have had many amazing experiences singing together — intimate gatherings in private spaces where the feeling of trust and friendship has allowed us to take chances, musical and otherwise.  Sharing this process in public is a wonderful challenge– to see if it is possible to keep the same feeling of magic and connection in a public forum.

The Blank Space Series. There is no plan or safety net. The studio floor feels enormous and there can be a desire to cling to the sides — until out of nowhere, a melody is unleashed, or a story or harmonic landscape unfurls and we push off into unknown waters, with trust as our compass. It’s a delicious feeling, catching the wave of creation, tapping into the collective field and making music from that place. A kind of portal opens and we all magically sail through together, improvisers and audience alike.

Blank Space is a not a performance per se, but a chance for us to share our process in case you might be inspired or even want to learn how to do it. Whenever possible, we invite an artist of a complementary discipline to work with us and there is also a time for audience members who would like to participate. If this piques your interest, we’d love to see you!
