A MEETING OF WORLDS
Singing workshops with Portuguese vocalist, Katia Leonardo

Part One: June 20th, 10am to 4:30pm

Drawing from her background in African, Brazilian and Portuguese cultures, Katia will guide participants on a journey to the roots of music and oral traditions, delving into rhythmic, harmonic and melodic patterns and looking at the places where these worlds intersect.

Together we will sing beautiful songs from Portugal and Brazil, rhythm games from Africa and will improvise our way into a space of creativity and fun. Katia will also offer exercises to expand the vocal palette, teaching techniques to enrich vocal timbre, power, comfort and accuracy.

Discover how playing with these vibrant rhythms and harmonies can enliven and enrich the experience of your own music, whatever the style. Come away with vibrant musical energy and inspiration.

Open to experienced as well as inexperienced singers.

Part Two: June 21st, 4pm to 7pm

A workshop for experienced singers. In this short workshop, we will continue with our exploration, but dive in deeper with complex rhythms, meters and harmonies.
